Once home to Frederick Philipse III, one of the signers of the Declaration of Dependence of 1776, a document detailing the need for America to remain a British colony, Philipse Manor Hall was built in the 1680s and is the oldest standing building in the county. The home's mid-18th century interior decoration includes a beautiful Rococo papier mache ceiling and it serves as a museum open to the public, with guided tours of the residence and its grounds offered throughout the year. Located close to Washington Park and War Memorial Park, the house is quite close to the downtown area.
